As I was heading home tonight I shifted into reverse in my automatice transmission and headed back. After backing up I planned on going forward and driving home but my Wrangler had other plans. The auto shifter just moved freely back and forth without doing anything. It would not come out of reverse so I kept on backing up and into another parking place. I then searched the web and found a bunch of article about the automatic transmission shiter linkage failing at a little plastic piece. Great work Jeep! Glad your engineers came up with plastic to handle such a vital part of my ability to drive my Jeep.
Now that I know how to fix it, I will take some photos and show you all how to fix this issue. There is a quick ziptie fix and then a mod to repair the issue and prevent it from happening again. Details to come.
I just got a TSB letter in the mail today about the ODB light in my Jeep Wrangler.
